Dogs are a part and parcel of human society for more than 15000 years. It is a domestic mammal. Biologically its family is Canidae. It is a subspecies of gray wolf and a very close relative of foxes and jackals. Genetically it is believed that dogs are descended from wolves(Canis) directly. Like most mammals, dogs have body hair. They always maintain their body temperature at a constant level despite the atmospheric temperature. In other words, they have an internal thermostat. By fossil remains, we can estimate that five distinctive types of dogs are present on the globe by the Bronze Age (about 7000 years before now). Namely, they are herding dogs, pointing dogs, wolf-type dogs, mastiffs, and sighthounds.

A dog is playing an important role in the history of humanity. They were among the first domesticated animals. They were hunting allies of hunter-gatherers. It is said that livestock was domesticated about 10,000 years ago. The dog served as guardians and herders of sheep, goats, and cattle. They are performing this duty in remote ruler areas of Africa and Asia till now. But in modern western societies dogs are used for social purposes and companionship. They are hired as guides for the blind and disabled. They also do work for the police. In short, man has bred a wide range of dogs for different functions. This purpose is achieved by improvements in veterinary care and animal husbandry.

When society shifted from hunting to agriculture, other breeds of dogs were developed. Farmers domesticated herding and guarding dogs. They were very important to farmers for protecting their livestock. At the same time for noble families, small breeds became desirable as playthings and companions. The terrier breeds were developed in England. The Pekingese was developed in China. Some breeds are extremely ancient, while others have been developed as recently as the 1800s.

Buy a Healthy And Playful Dog:

Always adopt or buy a healthy, bright, alert, and playful dog. The sluggish or depressed dogs must be avoided. You must provide a safe, warm and comfortable environment for your dog. Make sure your dog has access to fresh, clean water and food every day. Do not tie up your dog. At least they must be allowed to roam freely in a fenced yard. Monitor your dog’s health regularly and frequently.

The dog has significant importance in liberal cultures. In Western countries, dogs are kept for pleasure rather than utility. Humans feel lonely in these cultures. They adopt dogs and other pets for company. They even prefer dogs above their relatives.

In Eastern countries like China and Japan, people also keep dogs like Western people. But in Muslim culture, mingling and mixing with dogs is prohibited. Even in Muslim societies, dogs are kept for security reasons. Also, Muslim culture encourages people to keep dogs for herding and protecting cattle.
