Dogs are a part and parcel of human society for more than 15000 years. It is a domestic mammal. Biologically its family is Canidae. It is a subspecies of gray wolf and a very close relative of foxes and jackals. Genetically it is believed that dogs are descended from wolves(Canis) directly. Like most mammals, dogs have body hair. They always maintain their body temperature at a constant level despite the atmospheric temperature. In other words, they have an internal thermostat. By fossil remains, we can estimate that five distinctive types of dogs are present on the globe by the Bronze Age (about 7000 years before now). They are performing this duty in remote ruler areas of Africa and Asia till now. But in modern western societies dogs are used for social purposes and companionship. They are hired as guides for the blind and disabled. They also do work for the police. In short, man has bred a wide range of dogs for different functions. When society shifted from hunting to agriculture, other breeds of dogs were developed. Farmers domesticated herding and guarding dogs. They were very important to farmers for protecting their livestock. At the same time for noble families, small breeds became desirable as playthings and companions. The terrier breeds were developed in England. The Pekingese was developed in China. Some breeds are extremely ancient, while others have been developed as recently as the 1800s.

Always adopt or buy a healthy, bright, alert, and playful dog. The sluggish or depressed dogs must be avoided. You must provide a safe, warm and comfortable environment for your dog. Make sure your dog has access to fresh, clean water and food every day. Do not tie up your dog. At least they must be allowed to roam freely in a fenced yard.
